OC-1640 Rare WWI French Pilots Tunic and Visor Cap.
Nice horizon blue Officer's gabardine cloth tunic with
Captain rank and bullion Aviation winged stars. Buttons are
Infantry, but this is not unusual as many men transferred to
Aviation from other branches of service and continued to
wear that branch. Initially aviation was just a specialty,
not an actual branch of service. Flight badge is post WWI
and most likely dates to the late 1920s. Condition overall
is excellent. An examination of the collar shows that this
insignia is the only insignia ever on this collar. $1495

OC-1484 1915 private purchase French Adrian style
helmet made of tempered steel. These were made available
prior to the issue of Adrian helmets by the French Army on
the open market. They were typically purchased by Officers
as they were expensive. Due to the fact that they were made
from tempered steel they could fracture when struck by
shrapnel and fragments could enter the wound and were banned
by the Army, making them very rare today. Maker marked on
the rear visor. Some differences between this helmet and
the French Army issue include, pointed front visor, round
openings for front badge instead of slots. Black liner
trimmed with gold edging, 2 holes for ventilation on the top
instead of a slot and other fine details. I must confess,
when I purchased this I did not realize exactly what it was,
and had to research it. $895 |
